It never fails to strike me as how one-sided many people are in relating to one another.
I often like to tell the story of how one day I was in a cab driving down the Central Expressway (CTE). The driver was so engrossed in talking to me about the bad traffic situation in Singapore that he made this claim: “All women are bad drivers. They cause all accidents.” No sooner had he mentioned this, there was an accident up ahead that involved a woman.
So… I’m almost certain that you’ve been struck senseless by Steve Jobs’ flurry of innovations beginning with the MacBook, the iPod, the iPhone and now the iPad.
There’s a lot to say about genius, and although I have not yet met Steve Jobs myself, I think there’s a certain kind of drive in the man that enables him to push himself forward so much.
I’ve been asked by people in corporate training programs about how they should develop themselves in their careers and it strikes me as very surprising that companies, no matter how much they commit to developing their people, often fall short on a variety of factors, particularly in career development and progression.
Some organizations actually develop their top leaders but not their entry level staff because of the belief that there is little reason why they have to focus on their new staff. Mostly, it boils down to budget constraints and the need to focus on those who are creating the biggest value at the moment. Unfortunately, that’s an undeniable fact. Individuals, therefore, must step up to the occasion in order to develop themselves.
