I just completed delivering a training program on transformational leadership, my usual training set and came away with a few reflections myself. The first question I had to ask myself was: will people be able to grasp the concept of “transformation”.
Personal Development: Can you really achieve your goals?
I had a conversation with my sister-in-law about the question of ‘overachievement’. To a great extent, there are people who view the successes we have at AKLTG as a major success. For the owners, we see it as work in progress.
So, I was posed the question: are over achievers dissatisfied with life, put themselves through misery and “trying” to prove themselves even more? My answer was pretty straightforward.
Personal Development: Why Is My Life In A Mess?
A training participant once approached me and said that his life was in a big mess and just did not know where to start. I had three questions for him:
- Is it important enough to change?
- Is it beneficial enough to change?
- Do you have the right resources to change?
He was slightly taken aback where these three questions were concerned because a while he felt it was important to change, and logically thought it was beneficial to change, he was a little disturbed to discover that he still did not take any action.
The Blame Game
I was just watching the 2009 Oprah Show “Class In America” and listening to how so many people are getting angry and upset by people who are rich. Sure, there’s lots of people who are now retrenched and can’t find a job, but I think this has probably caused a change in consciousness.
Recently, I was conducting a training program for a corporation. One guy in particular was pretty low in energy and was constantly not paying attention, looking away and appearing fairly uninterested. He was probably in his mid-40s. During the second day, I had a chance to interact with this person and found out that he had been retrenched for over 18 months and was on this new job for only a few months.
